Responding to evidence that women scientists are under-represented in Ireland, the Science Foundation Ireland is offering post-doctoral awards for women to "undertake further training that has substantial industry relevance." Read more on their website here.
The availability of these awards is a welcome addition to encourage women to continue towards a career in academia. As noted in a recent (2013) discussion initiated by the Rockefeller Institute: "If you want to keep women in science, pay post-docs more." The debate continues about work-life balance and the timing of women academics starting a family and advancing their careers.
