Nina Heidary, a doctoral student at the Technische Universitat Berlin, Germany, was a finalist in this year's 2015 Spring MRS Science as Art competition for her SEM image of porous carbon spheres. These spheres serve as an important material for a number of applications, including biofuel cell applications and electrochemical energy storage. Ms. Heidary conducts research that probes the catalytic functions of adsorbed proteins using surface enhanced IR spectroscopy under the guidance of Prof. Anna Fisher.
