Posted on September 17, 2013 at 1:50 PM

WIN would like to congratulate Prof. Jillian Buriak (Chemistry department, University of Alberta), on her appointment as editor-in- chief of the top-ranked journal in its genre, Chemistry of Materials. This was announced by Chem. Mat. on August 26th, 2013. WiN observes that it is rare for a woman to hold the top editorial position in a scientific journal, making the appointment even more noteworthy.

Prof. Buriak is currently an Associate Editor for another high-impact nanoscience journal, ACS Nano, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Inorganic Nanoscale Materials and Senior Research Officer of the National Institute of Nanotechnology at the University of Alberta. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Her own research focuses on synthesizing, characterizing and applying a range of different nanoscale structures, for a wide range of applications including solar cell, semiconducting devices, catalysts and medical application.
